time out time!!!

hi all
wasnt sure where to post this so thought i would post it here! i have finally caught up with all the latest posts and threads, some were very informative, and most of them went over my head!!! others were just really funny!!!
the three amigos- i was thinking that neil should join you all, and was thinking that you could re name yourselfs the musketeers, as i think it was neil who mentioned in another thread, so then i got thinking that what other 'groups' had 4 main 'leaders', and my uneducated brain could only come up with the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse!!! any other ideas/ suggestions??
on a more serious note, i just wondered what is the most easiest/ simplest software to use? i know sage is one of the main, but i came across 'simply books' and they seem quite easy and straightforward, and also offer a free trial. has anyone tried this?
some time last year i found one where they gave you a tutorial and showed you how to use it and i thought it was great but can't for the life of me remember what it was called!!!
at the moment i'm looking for those that offer free trials, mainly so i can have a 'go' and get my head around the computerised side of things.
any ideas/suggestions anyone?
to guru shaun, i agree with robh, after guru must come 'dalai lama' status!!! or something like that anyway!!
ok thats me all chatted out
hope you are all having a good day

Hi there Kal

Home Learning College a bit quiet? wink

A Google search on fours throws up some interesting possibilities. Maybe The Four Noble Truths for would-be the buddhists. Or we could get really picky about punctuation and become the Four Horsemen of the Apostrophe.

On a more useful note, I wonder if you're referring to VT Transaction+. It's one I've earmarked to look at based on countless recommendations from people who should know what constitutes good accountancy software:

Cheers
Neil

Morning Kal,

good to know the Amigo's are making an impression... Be that professional or otherwise!

Great that your trying out software to see what fits you. As Neil mentions VT Transaction+ is a great piece of software and you get a no holds barred free trial of that one and you can keep and distribute the cashbook software without ever having to pay for that bit. Unfortunately there's no free trial of the full accounts suit but from reports on here it sounds as though it's pretty good.

There's some free IRIS software for Payroll available. Sure that you've already read that thread. And a lot of people swear by 12pay so you might want to give that one a trial run.

Don't know how you would group the four of us as we're a pretty diverse bunch of Amigo's.

There's the Prof. (Doctor Neil)

There's our veggie bohemian entrepreneur (Rob)

There's the real Guru and voice of reason (Bill)

And of course there's me the Buddhist banker.

You just couldn't make that mix up could you!

All we need now of course are capes, masks and spandex suits!... Actually, should have thought about super bookkeeper attire in the other thread about how one goes dressed to a clients!

Right, back to group cashflow statements!

talk later,

Shaun.

Group cashflow statements?  Now they are something I would rather forget about!

Don't think I ever managed to balance one in an exam, luckily you do not need to balance to scrape past....

Good luck with it!!

Carole

Cheers Carole,

most of it I get but I keep ending up putting my various financing bits under the wrong headings.

Why on earth under UK GAAP is it so complex! IFRS is just so simple by comparison but it's too late now to swap paths.

Possible options under UK GAAP :

- Return on investment and servicing of finance
- Capital expenditure and financial investment
- Management of liquid resources
- Financing

Possible options under IFRS :

- Investing Activities
- Financing Activities

I'm really hoping that it suddenly just clicks into place like the rest of group accounts did. My only hiccup there is now gradual acquisitions and mid year part disposals and that's not because I don't understand them. It's because I invariably forget at least one of the adjustments or just plain type the wrong figures into the old calculator.

As you say though, it doesn't have to balance so long as the examiner can see that you know what you're doing. In the real world with more time if it doesn't balance you can just keep working through it but in the P2 exam as you know it's just ridiculously time pressured.

Just got to keep telling myself that there's still almost three months left... Or more correctly 84 days... At least I'm not thinking in hours yet!

Talk later and thanks for the support,

Shaun.

Hi Neil,

Yep... The exam starts at 10:00 on June 15th.

Believe it or not I am studying at the same time as answering posts. I've got BK Forum open on the left hand screen, Paper P2 I-Learn CD running on the middle screen, Excel on the right hand screen, a defrag running on the backup machine and my desks wallpapered with Kaplan and BPP text books.

Oops, think that I've just let the cat out of the bag! Centuries of convincing women that we can't multi process dashed in the blink of an eye!!!

My wife tells me I can't multitask and then complains if I take a newspaper to the toilet.

Go figure.

HI ALL,
shaun you are funny!! biggrinspandex and masks!!! you could be the caped crusaders!! more like the del boy and rodney version?! the fantastic 4??? bohemian/buddhist/guru/ bookkeepers, nope really cant think of anything that would include all of that!!!
Neil, other 4's i came up with were,- the rat pack, the beatles, and the ninja turtles!! and none of them seem to fit!! although i like the vlc, i find it quite dull lately!!!
and lastly, even though i agree with most women that most men cant multi task, i am one of the lucky few out there who know that some men can actually do it!!! and more than just the usual bodily functions and scratching!!!
guys i'm sorry but there are still a few who havent evolved to your status yet!!
shaun and neil well done to both of you for all your multi tasking, i applaude you, (except reading a paper on the loo doesnt really count!!)
hope i dont get a load of stones thrown at me now!!!
smile

hope you all have a good night

kal x

Going to have to wait for the DVD.

Definitely want to see it but they've plugged it at 15 and I'm restricted to 12a's (all the fun of single parenting).

We've seen Avatar three times now (only once in 3d though as I can't trade the other kidney as well for cinema tickets!). Have you caught that one yet? Outstanding!

Cheers Kal,

I suppose not too unlike Del but about six foot high so more Rodney sized but chunkier.

Total agreement on Avatar. My boy who can never sit through a normal movie sat through that epic three times without a murmur (an cried at the first showing but I'm not allowed to mention that to anyone... Ever).

Just can't believe that it didn't wipe the floor at the Oscars! Lets see how opening day sales of Avatar compare to those of the hurt locker.

Personally me and my boy have been pigging out on chocolate ever since those nice people in Tesco's stacked the shelves with Kit Kat and Caramel Easter eggs at 95p!

Happy Easter to you too Kal. Now get thee to Tesco's and start emptying those shelves.

Have a good one,

Shaun.

I went to see Avatar but it wasn't the 3d version. Gave me a headache after 5 minutes and my partner got one after about 20. You could tell it was meant to be in 3 d with all these flowers blossoming and big trucks getting close. Without the special effects it reminded me of one the cartoons my daughter used to watch when she was little. We left the cinema before half an hour was up, but Tracie would mlike to see it in 3D, so I may change my opinion yet!

Hurt Locker doesn't (IMO) live up to the hype
