Does anyone have any examples of spread sheets for money in and money out that are typically used for a small vat register business that mainly deals in cash sales. Something that one could complete them self and send it off to a chartered accountant annually to be finalized?
^^ What Caron said but if not have a look at VT Cash Book. It's not a spread sheet as such but it will allow you to record income and expenditure and then export the relevant information or even just send the file to them on completion of tax year.

Any advice given is for general guidance and professional advice should be sought applicable to your circumstances.
I think you can request permission from HMRC to submit a paper copy of the VAT Return in certain circumstances - such as disability, or being in an area with no internet access. I'm not sure if that's applicable in this case, though.
Sorry I may of said it wrong, I dont want to do this on a computer. I want to do it in a book with pen and paper
What is your turnover (sales)? What was it when you registered for VAT?
Is it a Limited company, sole trader or partnership?
Give us an ideaof the sector you are in (not the business, unless you want to, but the sector).
Are you planning on doing just the VAT in this way? What about the general bookkeeping?
Why is your Accountant not assisting with such questions and suggesting something that is suitable having the knowledge of you and your business, rather than folk guessing with the answers on here?

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.
You should check out answers with reference to the legal position
The kind of template I had in mind was an expenses spred sheet page, where it would list in columns thing like cleaning, fixtures and fittings, travel ect. The page where you would record all the recites you had collected

Can you please answer my questions.
They are important because VAT reporting rules have changed massively in the last 12 months.

Did you have a look at the analysis ledger book that John has suggested in his post? I've had a look at a few online retailers and that one looks to be really good value. You would need to complete the column titles yourself to allocate the expenses but if you get a copy of the businesses accounts for last year and look over any previous business records you will get a sense of what columns you will need going forward. And you could ask the accountant for their advice on that.
If you want to be able to record income also and have a weekly record of the cashflow then have a look at the selection of accounting books that Ryman and Amazon sell. I saw this one -
There is a big selection of accounting books for small businesses on the Ryman web-site, and if John's suggestion doesn't work for you I think you will find an alternative there that does.
As John points out though, since the business you refer to is VAT registered then quarterly VAT returns will also need to be addressed and, apart from in exceptional circumstances, these need to be submitted electronically to HMRC. Its important that the business has a method in place for doing so, if the business plans to remain VAT registered.

Its no more than a blank book! Its the info of categories I put inside it that I need. I have no last year accounts as I have no running business at the moment, but if this forum is not for business people to come get free advice (as stated above) then there is no point going further with this thread

The problem with giving advice to business owners on a forum is that you only have the bland original question and not the specifics about that particular business and businss owner behind it. Without delving you will not get the information you require to form a proper and detailed view. Without forming that proper and detailed view people will give bad and wrong advice.
Often business owners think that they have a simple question, but there is no such thing, we need the information behind the question. Many folk do not know what they do not know hence why they end up receiving or giving dodgy advice. Hence why I said you need to speak to your accountant.
Do you know what VAT scheme you are on? Do you know what all the relevant tax points are that could relate to the way you do business? Do you know what is a legitimate business expense that you can claim VAT back on for the type of business you are running? We know none of these, never mind the other questions that remain outstanding that have openly been asked or at least alluded to by other posters.
Just one reason why we do not give advice to businesses on here.

Totally agreed. Lol on your copy and pasting Caron, plus now pinching some of my fave sayings. Young Padawan
Does beg the question - why has the OP registered for VAT if no/minimum sales as yet. Unless for the usual reasons, but not obvious on a NIL information base.
Highly recommend that you get that Accountant on board before you do ANYTHING else. Think - tax planning...key is in the word 'planning'. Could save yourself a fortune in the long run.
