The Land Trust is a Registered Charity with headquarters in Warrington and operating nationally. They are leading the way in establishing new, sustainable methodologies for the management of open space, on behalf of, and in partnership with, local communities. They are responsible for the management of over 50 sites around the UK, many of which have been restored from industrial use and range from country parks, to Sites of Special Scientific Interest, to urban pocket parks and listed buildings. They work with local partners, such as Groundwork, the Wildlife Trusts and The Conservation Volunteers, to manage sites on the ground and liaise with communities. Their primary aim is the successful delivery of our five charitable objectives: environment; community cohesion; health; education; and economic benefits

Job Description

The Land Trust is a leading Charity responsible for the management and development of open spaces, on behalf of, and in partnership with, local communities nationally. The organisation has grown substantially in the last few years such that it now holds in excess of £100 million of investments. Over the next 10 years, it has a strategy to achieve even greater things which will bring with it expansion into new areas.

To assist with this exciting growth, the organisation is looking to recruit two new positions: a Head of Financeand a Commercial Accountant (for the HoF role please refer to the separate advert)

The Commercial Accountant is a newly created role responsible for helping to achieve the organisations strategic objectives through the appraisal of new development sites and commercial project proposals. The role is responsible for insightful financial and non-financial reports and recommendations to support effective decision making and influence organisational performance. Other key responsibilities include:
 

  • Work closely with the Business Development team to appraise and report the expected financial implications of new site acquisitions and how they should be funded.
  • Working closely with the Operations team to appraise, interpret and optimise available commercial opportunities and make recommendations thereon.
  • Complete due diligence on proposed commercial opportunities
  • Support the Fundraising team in the development of innovative funding applications
  • Work with the Director of Finance to optimise the investment strategy best suited to new business opportunity
  • Reporting to the Head of Finance
  • Ad hoc work for the CEO

The Successful Applicant

You will be a qualified accountant, ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent, with a commercial outlook and enquiring mind. You will be heavily involved in key business decisions and have the real ability to directly influence the performance of the organisation. A real passion and interest in the built and green environment and its regeneration would be a huge plus. The ability to make decisions and recommendations based on appropriate analysis of the risks and opportunities involved, often in unfamiliar or ground breaking situations, is vital. You will be entirely comfortable with growth and change. You must have excellent Excel skills and the ability to assimilate large amounts of complex financial and non financial information. Clearly strong communication and stakeholder management is a must.
