Alexandra Park is a thriving and dynamic school which successfully applied for Academy status in 2011. Opened in 1999, they are the most over-subscribed school in the borough, boasting excellent exam results and were labelled an 'Outstanding School' by Ofsted on their last inspection. Priding themselves on providing an excellent curriculum experience to all students, they are located on a 5 acre site in North London, with a view of the Alexandra Palace.

Reporting in to the Finance Director, you will be responsible for the day to day running of the finance department. Working alongside the Management Accountant and Finance Officer, you will be tasked with preparing the annual budget, monthly reporting, production of the year end accounts and dealing with the auditors. The main objectives of the role are:

Leading on budget setting and forecasting whilst monitoring performance against budget throughout the year

Ensuring the school meets all the statutory requirements of the EFA

Assisting the Finance and IT Directors with implementing the school's cashless system

Preparing monthly, quarterly and yearly returns for the appropriate bodies (including Pensions, VAT & PAYE)

Producing monthly management accounts including income & expenditure, balance sheet and cash flow statements

Who we're looking for

This role would suit a pro-active, confident and engaging team player with commercial and/or public sector accounting experience, particularly in budgeting and producing monthly accounts. You will be a qualified accountant with a commercial mindset and have over 2 years post qualification experience, with the ability to engage with budget holders and communicate financial information to non financial persons. You must have excellent Excel and MS Office skills, including Vlookups and Pivot tables, have the ability to resolve complex financial issues and be well versed in accountancy packages (preferably PS Financials).

Knowledge of Academy funding or Education Sector experience is desirable.
