Newbie from Yorkshire

Hi All

I am so glad I've found this forum.

After making the very scary decision of starting my own business, I suddenly felt very lonely and to find a forum with like minded individuals with so much good advice is very comforting.

I have worked in various accounts roles for a variety of companies for over 10 years and have level 2 & 3 AAT.  So I hope you would agree that I have the experience and technical know how to make my business a success.

I'm in the process of joining ICB in the hope that the book keeping accreditation will add not only to my knowledge but also my reputation.

The only stumbling block (rather embarassingly) is my company name.  I was thinking of KC Book keeping services, but am having trouble abbreviating it for a web site name, is anybody inspired by kcbs.co.uk?

I hope to be able to contribute more in the future

Thanks
Kate

Hi Kate

Welcome to the forum. In terms of your website name, I wouldn't abbreviate it but have bookkeeping in there somewhere. This will help potential clients to find your website when searching on Google. You could use KC Bookkeeping Services as your company name and your website address. Alternatively, your could use www.(insert your town name)bookkeeping.co.uk as your website address.

Kind regards

Zöe

Hi Kate,

I am new here too, welcome to the forums.

I was boring and picked my initials as my business name; however, I bought the domain name Wiltshire accountants. Having that really helps with SEO and I do plan at some point to rebrand.

It may be therefore a good idea to localise the business name, Yorkshire Bookkeeping or your local town/ city. Think about what people are looking for, particularly on Google.

Hi Kate - welcome to the forum. It is good to know you've got somebody to ask. Whereabouts in Yorkshire are you?

Thanks for the replies.

I've decided to go for Yorvik Bookkeeping Services as I'm based in York, and York Bookkeeping was taken. So now I need to crack on with some web designing!

Thanks again
Kate

Inspired? I don't know.
Easy to remember? Definitely.

If you are not on the internet at the time to click on a link to your website - I think it would be a lot easier to have a simple website address. Your full name of the business will likely appear wherever you are promoting your website.

So that's one vote in favour of the short simple address.

I did type a long paragraph about that may come across as foreign surname but deleted it as it sounded "a bit racist". I take it "Yorvik" describes people from York(shire). A bit like "Weegie" describes someone from Glasgow.

Hi Kate and welcome to the forum.

I think it's a great name, but... I have just typed Yorvik Bookkeeping into google and www.ybsl.co.uk, which stands for Yorvik Bookkeeping Services (not sure about the L?)

I don't think that the owner of www.ybsl.co.uk, can do a great deal about you using this, but I thought it was worth mentioning! Sorry to be a damp squid.

Also, Yorvik was the old name of York during the Viking occupation of the city Peasie!! I visited the Yorvik museum!!

Hope everyone has battled the snow to get some work done!

Ross

L = Limited.
They incorporated on the 24th September last year.

Ah, the Vikings, we sent them on their way in 1263.

Agree, you should definitely consider SEO for your domain name. hence why I use wiltshireaccountants.co.uk as it comes up great when people are searching for accountants in wiltshire.
