Excel

Hi all, I have just taken a new client (hurray!!).

He has a manual bookkeeping system, uses the big cathedral analysis books. Everything is very neat and numbered, there is the odd error obviously but nothing monstrous.

I have set up a template in Excel which mirrors his analysis books so I can check the handwritten books and he can use the books as normal then give them to me monthly to total up the sheets. Eventually I am hoping I can just take the paperwork update the spreadsheet and cut the duplication of the book out but hey hes happy with it so I am happy.

What should I be looking to produce in terms of monthly reports in this kind of system? I am used to Sage where I run a monthly VAT return so we could see where we were. I could set this up within my work book using formulas to pull the various figures through.

What about bank reconciliations? I have just done a manual one this month but is there a way I can do this in Excel? I can draw up a monthly profit and loss too.

I just want to get all bases covered so that I can give him his reports at the end of the month with all the information on he needs for his accoutants.

When I used excel to do bank rec's I used to fill (any colour) the ones that matched. You could then either use conditional formatting or add up the uncoloured ones - depends on how many there are.

Ah yes I can replicate the cash book and use that as you have said to get a reconciliation

I have an excel cashbook with a bank reconciliation statement built in. I'm not saying it's great but you can have a look and play with it to meet your needs.

drop me your email address and I can send it.

Kris
