Hello

Hi everyone,

I've been on the forum for a few weeks now and thought it was time to introduce myself, after all the good advice I've been given.

My name's Nicola and I've worked in various finance roles since I left school (many, many years ago!) I've been off work for 3 years after having a baby and went back into a finance role in the city and although I loved the job I didn't like spending so much time away from my daughter and not being involved in her life.

Hubby and I decided to relocate down the the South Coast and I'm now studying AAT  (after the good advice I've been given on this forum), initially to get a job and experience (I'm a bit rusty on the 'books' side of things) and then to set up as self-employed.

I'm sure I'll be here asking lots of questions in the coming months, and then contributing lots of answers (I hope!)

Hi Nicola,

Welcome to the forum! That sounds like quite a change of pace! Where abouts on the south coast are you? I'm based near Southampton.

Hi Nicola,

just to echo the others. Welcome to the forum.

I'm sure that you're nowhere near as rusty as you think you are.

Its a bit like riding a bike. You don't do it for years but as soon as your back in the saddle it all comes rushing back.... Then you hit a tree, get back on the bike and remember why you gave it up the first time!

So, whats happened while you were away... Well, prudence and consistency changed from essential concepts to nice to haves (probably because Mr Angry never actually understood either of them whilst in No. 11!).

You have to have to be registered for Money Laundering.

The government has discovered that there is nothing to stop them implementing taxes retrospectively.

The ICB have decided that they want to play in a different league.

The AAT have made there website fort knox so you can't find any of the information about them that you want to know until you've actually joined (but they're still the best of the bunch).

Think that pretty much brings you back up to speed. And if I've missed anything I'm sure that Waldorf... Sorry, Bill (Fellow founder of the grumpy old non gender specific bookkeepers and accountants club) or Rob will fill in the gaps.

Welcome to our merry little throng. Look forwards to lots of emails exchanges over the coming months.

Kind regards,

Shaun.

Amy - I'm in Poole (well, I will be in a month's time) - we'll have to organise a South coast bookeeppers meet up!

Shaun - yes AML is huge now, when I left my last job 3 years ago client take on was part of the revenue team's job (a very small part), now that company has a team of four people purely working on client take on and AML.

And you're right about the AAT website - nearly put me off studying with them... it's only the good advice on here that convinced me to do it.
