Frustrated by HMRC

Hi All,

I have called HMRC to see if they have recieved an application registering my client self employed, I gave them the details over and over again, then they turned round and said the nino doesn't exist. I don't now know what to do apart from asking the client to call themselves. I am so frustrated, and have checked the details and it is the same nino as on all wage documents! ahhhh!

They can be a nightmare. Yesterday I had a PAYE inspection and on asking questions, all they did was direct me to the website!

Many times I have called them looking for direction and all they do is point you to the appropriate notice - but my questions relate to that notice and its interpretation.

Also, different people will give different answers! There is no consistency with their service. I would call them again and I would also re-send the application over and over again - they obviously need it in triplicate before they act! Can you not register online?

Hi Lor

I agree - I would call again. I called them once concerning a company that had no UK presence but wanted to employ staff over here. The first person gave me the number of someone else, they then gave me another number to call and they then gave me the number of the first person! I called the first number again and got through to a really helpful lady who sorted it out for me.

I often get two different answers for the same question when I call.

It really does depend on who you talk to. Some have no idea and some will sort it out for you in two seconds flat. Call again and hope you get through to someone who can help!

Good luck

Zöe
