Motor Expense - Allow or disallow?

Got an electrician chappy on my books who uses a car exclusively for work, a ford ranger bought new 5 years ago.

In this set of accounts I have an invoice for LED headlights and tail lights which come to the best part of £800.  I can't make up my mind whether this is just to make the car a bit more "posh" if that's the right word or could be classed as a safety feature. 

He is very conservative in what he claims so I have no issues with him trying to pull a fast one. so I don't want to reject it unnecessarily.  Thoughts?

Hi John, did the lights need replacing or did he just decide to do it ?

Is there a valid busines reason for it. i.e. as an electician is he expected to work outside at a farm where it may be difficult to have adequate lighting of another variety? Was this a better option than a whole row of spotlights accross the top of the cab?

My question would simply be why did he need them and if its a business reason then they should be allowable.

Remind him to tell his insurers that he has upgraded the car as you don't want them annulling his insurance for (say) a fire in the electrics.

Thanks Shaun and Doug, it's clarified what I was thinking but don't want to decline him if a valid reason can be given for upgrade/replacement.
