Re-registering for Vat

Hi Everyone

I de-registered a (troublesome) client for Vat at 31/3/20 as he stopped the catering part of his business and was only providing chef services.  Due to Covid he had to go back to catering after 6 months and has only just told me when handing the records over.  To be honest, I didn't expect to see him again!

Does his original registration have to be re-opened (and if so how do you do this? I've not had a response from HMRC) or is it a new registration?  Idiotically, I removed him from my agent Vat account so there is no 64-8 in place now which further complicates it in my befuddled mind!  I'm sure my Covid vaccines have wiped my brain no

Any advice would be appreciated, thank you.

Hi Janet

It needs to be a new registration but do you need to re-register him at this stage?  Unless he wants to re-register I would wait until he hits the threshold again (rolling 12 months)

Thanks John & Doug Apologies for the slow response, unexpected trip to the North East has put work on hold. I'll get back on with this on Friday.

 Hi John

Now I'm back and can operate the technology!  You're right, due to lockdowns and lack of business the rolling figure is way below the threshold.  That's one thing off the to-do list, thank you smile

Enjoy your weekend, I'm off to find the gin biggrin
