SA Deadline

I just received an email from HMRC saying that Self-Assessment customers will not receive a penalty as long as they file by 28th February, I am not going to tell my clients as I still have 9 to do even though 7 are just waiting to be signed off, but good news for anyone having to work extra hours to meet the 31st deadline.

I just got the same email Doug...and I won't be telling my (only) client (left to do) either!! It does bother me that they've had 9 months to get it sorted but they're still beggaring about :(

Cheers for the info Doug... And very wise. If they think that they have an extra month they will just hold onto their documents for an extra month.

One of the downsides of Covid has been that I am now not allowed to go around to their houses and hold them out of their upstairs windows by their ankles until they cough up all the invoices / receipts / mileage logs, etc.

Thanks Shamus, I've never tried that method before!  Will keep it in mind for future problem clients biggrinbiggrin

I think there might be a sting in the tail to this.  It's possible that Rishi will change the criteria of the fourth SEISS grant to include 19/20 but only those who have have filed by 31st January will have it taken into account.

This time there is really no excuse for clients not to have had their paperwork to us.  I'm just waiting for one, deadline was today but I'm not expecting it nor shall I continue chasing. I was sadistically looking forward to them getting a penalty because I did the return late on the 31st both last year and the year before, as soon as I received the paperwork, but I'm not doing it this year.

Just to add to the above, the filing can be deferred to the end of Feb but full payment (of the amount that one may not know at the time if filing is deferred) is still expected by the end of January or interest will be applied.

Here's the press release:

HTH,

Shaun.
