HMRC email on SEISS

Hi all

Just got an email from HMRC concerning the SEISS and asking for us as accountants to help by supporting our clients and advising them on the scheme, they want us to contact them and talk them through it all, I have nearly 50 clients and they want me to contact every one

Because none of us are busy are we!!!!

They want us to help - but we cannot process it.

Barking.

Just barking.

But we all know we will end up helping anyway....who needs sleep!!!!!!!!

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

You should check out answers with reference to the legal position

Just remind me.... what is this sleep thing again !!!

Yes, barking does not cut it !

Just processing a few VAT returns for some of my retail guys (Jan to Mar), if anyone has any retail clients, buckle up and settle in for a hard slog, if March sales / purchases are anything to go by the next quarter will be MASSIVE.

Hi Julie

I'm doing a retail one this week, but I'm not expecting anything out of the norm, should I be?  Lady actually more or less shut the shop down the week before as she was very fearful about it all, but has been doing mail order since.  A vape shop I also do VAT returns for I'll be doing towards the end of the month and I'm envisaging normal pattern to the 23rd March then nothing after that.

Hi Doug

Think I'm going to have to play this by ear.  I doubt any of my sole trader clients have bta's, although a friend (not a client) contacted me this morning picking my brains about the bounce back loan and mentioned that he knew he'd have to submit his own application for SEISS, and had submitted a request for a gg, and it was set up in minutes.  However,  I've absolutely no doubt clients will be asking for my help.  Surely it would have been easier just to let us submit the applications in a similar way to the job retention scheme. If we're hand holding it's going to take a lot longer per client.

Hi John,

My retail guys run a number of well known franchise convenience stores that have remained open during lockdown. Although their sales have gone up it is not without a lot of headaches maintaining supplies and dealing with restrictions on working patterns and of course the shoppers !
