Self Employed - income support scheme

Hi All,

Quick question - I have a client who become SE part way though  2016/17,  had been PAYE up until November 2016 then SE thereafter.   Will the income support scheme only see the SE element of that years return ?

Any pointers gratefully appreciated.

As far as I'm aware, it will just be the SE element that is taken into consideration.

Hi Julie

It won't apply in your case but be careful if overall paye wages are greater than self employed profit.  I have a client who was only in SE 2016/17 and 2018/19  (two different trades)  but was also employed in 2016/17 and 2017/18.  I'm not sure they will ignore his income for 2017/18 as no sa return was required but if they don't he won't qualify.

Thanks John,

Have had loads of queries on this today ! Everyone is different, good example is your client.

I have spent this morning contacting all my SE guys to give them some idea as to what they may receive based on their returns. Some very stressed people out there as there is a couple of months to go before they receive anything !
