Health Insurance

Just looking for a quick bit of advice please (sorry I realise it's silly season)

Client was employed and provided with Health Insurance which was previously declared on P11D

Client now sole trader working for a number of clients including previous employer who still provide the Health Insurance benefit.  As a sole trader where (if it all) does the benefit get declared?

Thanks in advance

Valerie

Why is the client still providing it if they are no longer an employee?

Hi Doug

Many thanks for your reply.  Client was an employee of the one company.  She has gone to be sole trader in order to look after a number of companies all of which the original employer has some direct relationship with so I guess it was a sweetener to keep her loyal.

In which case I would include the benefit as income on the sole trader accounts.

Just a thought.....How are the former employers treating it for tax purposes?

Are they providing a payslip? If not why not? Have they done a P45?

She didnt need to become a sole trader to look after other companies - she could have stayed on as a part time employee and been a sole trader. If it smells like a fish.....

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

You should check out answers with reference to the legal position

Thanks Doug

Afternoon Joanne,

From my point of view she's invoicing the companies, working from home and paying her own tax/ni etc so I'm happy she's a sole trader. Just the confusion re the Health insurance which she had noted in her accounts as p11d so I'm not quite sure how she's receiving it or what paperwork etc, I'll have a dig a little deeper.

Enjoy the rest of the day

Valerie
