Desperate Sage One and MTD help please

Hi,

I signed a client up for MTD just after his June qtr-by the time the authorisation codes came it was too close to the June qtr to be able to do it. I have just finished his return in Sage One, put in my MTD HMRC gateway codes and it won't be accepted by HMRC. It doesn't throw up an error meesage, it just says that it cannot do it at this time. So I tried this morning, then rang the vat office. The man I spoke to told me that my client isn't signed upto MTD, something must have gone wrong, I can't do it again yet as you can't sign up 5 days before and 7 days after a vat return is due. He said that I can submit using the old codes. I changed the codes in sage, but it won't let me submit as it's not signed upto MTD. I really don't know what to do. I'm sure that last qtr there was a box or something to tick to say if you were over the threshold and needed to submit with MTD. Does anyone have a suggestion or encountered this? Sorry it's a bit rambly.

Thanks

Nicola

Changed what codes in sage? Do you mean you put your old agent code in rather than the ASA?

Can you see if either or your agent accounts what VAT return is expected (will also gvie you a steer as to whether this is MTD or not)

Hi Joanne,
I put my ASA in first but after the vat man told me that it hadn't worked and the client isn't signed up, I changed it back his (client) gateway code (I know that I shouldn't be using client gateway user ID's, but I applied for the authorisation code to get him as a client which took ages to come through)
The return is Jul-Sep

Thanks
Nicola

do you now have authorisation? If so try doing it with your old agent vat number. Does that work?

If not and his own gateway doesn't work try the suggestion I made above and on your other post, then we can maybe take it from there.

I do have authorisation now. I think I'm going to have to ring HMRC tomorrow and submit them over the phone as they each aren't registered for vat services on their HMRC dashboard because both are new clients which an accountant that I use recommended me for. They advised me to continue to use the clients HMRC gateway details until MTD was sorted. Does that make sense at all?

Thanks

Nicola

I'm very confused (not enough wine!)

If they hav a government gateway, what does it show....in or out of MTD?

&

If you have been authorised, what does (1) your old agent account show and (2) your new ASA account.....in or out of MTD?

Same process for is a VAT return due.

Failing the above, try some bridging software and see what happens.

Hi, I don't think I had explained very well, that is always my worst period for vat returns and I had loads of other things going on so it was a bit too close to the 7th deadline, so I was quite stressed out. Because both of the clients were fairly new ones that I had been given by an accountant, I was advised to carry on using their Government gateway codes until I signed them up to MTD. As both are on Sage One, their vat returns arre always submitted through that and not through the HMRC website, therefore if you log into HMRC using their GG codes, vat is not set up as being accessible and I thought that it would take a few days to get that up and running as I thought that they had to send a code out. However when I made my frantic call to the vat office they went through it with me over the phone and I got access and submitted that way. In a few days I'm going to try again to link them both to my ASA account as they are both not linked to it.

Thank-you for all of the help though, much appreciated Joanne :)
