Keeping upto date with legislation

I've been browsing the forums today and came across a post that mentioned payslips changes. Although my clients are fully compliant with the new changes I didn't know about this change. I am signed up to Hmrc newsletter (probably not the right wording) but don't recall ever seeing anything come through on email for payroll changes. How does everybody else keep upto date with new legislation.

Hi Nicola

My main source is accountingweb.co.uk, and I pick up on other news sources as well if it's something I think I need to know.  I also have access to the agent newsletters which is handy source.

I am probably missing info as well but it's nigh impossible to keep on top of every change.

Hi John, Does accounting Web provide you with much information or do you have to scroll through and try and read what you can?. I do get a few bits of information from Sage as well but would like to keep more upto date. I think I should also visit these forums more even if it it just for a nosy of what's happening

Hi Nicola

I look at any questions most days and read any that I think I might be interested in and also the news items aweb publish.

Agent newsletters https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/agent-update

Employer bulletins  https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/hm-revenue-and-customs-employer-bulletin

Lots of places
Aweb as John mentions, albeit my primarty source used to be here! when there were lots of two way conversations going on (no more!!)

Now primary sources are:-

- Prof body
- Legislation website www.legislation.gov.uk/
- www.gov.uk/government/organisations/department-for-business-energy-and-industrial-strategy
- HMRC updates www.gov.uk/government/latest%5B%5D=hm-revenue-customs
and the one John mentions
- VAT updates - used to be from Les, now Marcus Ward
- used to get Accountancy Age but knocked it on the head as I never have time to read it
- PQ magazine
- other misc emails
A few more but they are currently buried in my favourites. If I get time I will dig them out (I really need to do some more categorising of favourites as there are about 500 outside the usual folders and I cannot find anything!)

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

You should check out answers with reference to the legal position

Hi John and Joanne Cannot reply direct to the messages as using my phone and it isn't giving me the option. I'll certainly have a look at all of the suggestions you have both made. I don't think I get the agent emails from hmrc so that's a definite must to sign up to.
