Bookkeeping business set up

Hey everyone, just wanted to get a bit of advice/help in relation to setting up as a self-employed bookkeeper.

I have worked in practice and industry for a number of years and will be focussing purely on cloud-based bookkeeping.

I am based in Northern Ireland and am currently finishing up my Accounting Technician Level 5 qualification with Accounting Technicians Ireland.

I've registered as self-employed, am looking into pricing, LOE etc.

Does anyone in Northern Ireland have experience with Accounting Technicians Ireland?

I am mainly curious if anyone has used this qualification before in relation to money laundering with HMRC, or using it to gain a technician/bookkeeping qualification with AAT/IAB by exemptions?

Thanks

Hi ?????
Can you add your first name to your profile so it appears at the bottom of your posts please. (Edit profile - signatures)

HMRC will give ML cert to anyone - they dont ask what prof body you are with. Might be cheaper to get it through your prof body though.

Not heard of your prof body so cant say off top of my head. But AAT and IAB list exemptions on their websites. I would add the links normally but Im a bit busy - easy to locate though with a quick google search.

Loads of other advice on here.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

You should check out answers with reference to the legal position

Using a professional body for ML gives you additional support. I dont know anyone registered with HMRC who is able to get anything extra for being registered with them.

You may not need the extra help, but in the worse case - if I had the police at my door early in the morning I know I can a least ring my professional body for help. I cant see this being a option with the HMRC!
