MGD change of Accounting period

Good morning,

I apologise as this is a bit of a rant rather then a request for assistance.

Paper request made to HMRC for MGD Registration with  Return quarters to coincide with the accounting year.

HMRC received the Return but took so long to process it , they changed the quarter ending periods by a month.

Not a problem (I thought at the time) I would complete the first quarters Return and then apply to change the Return period dates.

Easier said than done, I have telephoned the MGD registration line continually this week and am advised all the staff are busy and then cut off.

I have telephoned first thing when they open, and also as they close with the same automated answer.

I'm really not sure where to go from here other then to keep trying I guess. ?

Best wishes

Jay

I think you're going to struggle tbh Jay.   That number is the excise section of VAT, and I expect the whole VAT part is struggling with sorting MTD out.

I'm wondering if getting in touch with the agent account managers service might help.  You've tried your best to get through and haven't been able to, and your situation needs sorting

Thank you for the response John.

Thinking about it , you are spot on, MTD must have taken up considerable resources.

The application was made and acknowledged on 13th, which suggests they have it and it's in the pile waiting to be done.

Think I will give it another week as I have a while until the next Return.

I will post any progress.

Best wishes

Jay

Hi Jay
Thought I would do it now before I forget!

I assume you are calling the 0300 200 3700 number (best time is probs about 10.30!).

Or try
gambling.taxes@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk
or 0300 058 8063

But I didnt give you that info!

Its from 2018 consultation so hopefully still valid!

Agree with John - all hands on deck for MTD, so you have little chance with the rest of HMRC at the mo.

Good afternoon all,

The MGD Accounting period was changed today.

Over three months for this online application to be dealt with. Oh well, at least another problem ticked off.
