Independent Examination for Charity

Hi all

I have been asked to provide an independent examination for a charity.  It is simply a village hall and extremely small and I have checked that there are no requirements for an official audit.

While I have done the bookkeeping and accounts for charities before I have never actually done an independent examination and I wondered exactly how this should be carried out.

The treasurer has produced accounts on a cash basis and I have requested these with bank/ petty cash statements.

Should I also ask to see all the income & expenditure documentation?

Is there anything else I should be aware of?

I see there is a template on the GOV website, is this the best to use or could anyone advise a better one?

Any help greatly appreciated

Thanks

Valerie

Hi Valerie

Yes to the above

Treat it a bit like an audit. Last thing you want is someone else picking up on something that you havent when it has your name all over it.

Never used a template myself.  Can you add the link - only cos Im nosey.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

Thanks Joanne

This is the link

It's pretty basic but I guess it does the job

Hi Valerie
I see what you mean about the form.

Ive not looked recently but charity commission website used to have things pretty well covered with regards to instructions, so might be worth a hunt around.

Thanks for the link
