Payrolling Benefits in Kind

Hi

I need some help, I have been on the phone to HMRC and getting the run around!

I am a payroll Agent for a company, one of the Directors of which wants to start paying for his company car through the

payroll - known as payrolling Benefits in Kind. I read on HMRC's website that "If youre intending to payroll benefits and expenses,

you must register them with HMRC using the payrolling employees taxable benefits and expenses service.

You must do this before the start of the tax year."

I have been on to the Agents Helpline, Employers Helpline and Online Service Helpline, but none of them can

tell me how to go about doing this.

I can't be the only Agent to want to do this, so is there some kind soul on here who can help me work out

what I need to do?

Many Thanks

Eunice

Hi Eunice

I do not run payroll but maybe this from when I did ATT will be worth a read

https://www.att.org.uk/payrolling-benefits-kind

Did the HMRC link you posted not work for you? I did click on it but could not provide the information that they requested in order to enrol for the service

Sorry I can not be of any more help but hopefully others who deal with payroll in more detail than myself will be along to offer some advice

Hi Eunice

Whilst I haven't yet used this service it seems fairly straight forward.  The link should take you to your agent online account.  Log in and it asks you to confirm your email address.  Put the code in you receive by email.  You then have to put the employers paye ref details in and they will receive a letter with a code.  Log back into your agent account and enter the code.  You will then be able to payroll the benefit for 2019/20 presuming you do it before the end of the tax year.

Let us know if this works or not

Thanks John, but I still dont get it. I did what you suggested but its then asking me to register for PAYE online, but Im already registered for that. I am assuming there is some special registration needed for patrolling benefits innkind, but maybe Im wrong and as long as you are registered to use PAYE Online arrives thats all you need? Thanks for your continued help. Eunice

Hi Eunice

Is it this bit?  If so click enrol and put the employers paye ref and account office ref.  If I've read it right then you or the employer will get the activation code which you then enter into your online account.

John

I have done that, got to the page you have shown, and then it asks you if you have already got login details.
If you click yes it just takes you to your account and we're no further forward.

Someone on another forum has suggested it needs to be done as the employer and not as an agent,
so I'm going to try that.

Thanks again for the help.

Eunice

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

You should check out answers with reference to the legal position

Thanks Joanne

I have added PAYE to the Employers Government gateway account, just waiting for the authorisation code to come now and then hopefully it will
be straight forward (as if!)

Thanks for all the advice - I'll let you know when (if) I succeed !
