Mini Beast

How are you all getting on with the mini-beast?

Been snowing here throughout the night and still is but only a couple of inches has settled, however it is forecast to continue for the rest of the morning, I was going to go out but think I will just stay tucked up under the duvet reading my VAT coursework, although I am sure the kids will have other ideas!

My Mum put the kiss of death on us again ''oh it's not forecast to hit us, I think the Pennines are protecting us' .

When the hell have the Pennines EVER protected us from snow, coming from any flaming direction. Never!

We have 2 inches at front of the house and 4 at the back (and that's not drifts, it's settled). Mini micro climate weird thing going on, as across the road have only 2!! I get that with the rain too, rains at the back, but not the front! Still snowing!

I would love a 'peeeeejarrma day' as my nephew calls it, but stoooooopidly offered to help a client out with some of his (none accountancy)related work whilst one of his staff is off (four days of it, gawd that's an eye opener) so have my 'real' work to do today.

Have fun with your VAT. Might throw a couple of testers your way winkbiggrin

Please do, I could do with the practice

On International aspects at the moment, goods were fine but services seems a bit more complicated

Beginning to wish I had chosen IHT, Trusts & Estates no

Ha, was thinking of international services. This is an easy one though really (hopefully!)

Ex football player, turned pundit. German born, German passport, resided in UK for 15 years. Service company.

Does an after dinner speech for a German company, then flies over from Germany to Dublin and does a spot for an Irish TV station, then arrives back home and does a piece for a magazine which will also be pushed through Twitter for a German newspaper. Then flies out to Singapore to do a mid season tour for his old uk based football club (the contract is with the club).

Ooh, just before the snow hit yesterday we had some excitement. A match day bus burnt out right at the end of my road.

Bus

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43442378

It shut the road for four hours after which the snows hit big time (with face ripping winds) so they couldn't move the burnt out shell (The photo must have been taken by one of the passengers before the fire really took hold) causing a real match day traffic headache.

That aside it's all picture postcard type snowy scene out there now... But still with face rippy winds so no snowman building for us today.

Morning guys

Not too bad at all here.  Had a few showers yesterday and then a 20 min spell late last night that settled.  Woke up this morning to find quite a bit had melted and the roads completely clear.  However my sister posted a video this morning of the A66 which runs from Scotch corner to Carlisle and a few bad smashes in treacherous conditions.

Morning John.

looking at your avatar now I'm thinking "Excuse me, but I don't suppose that you seen a penguin carrying some cymbals have you?".

I used to drive up past Carlisle every Sunday evening en route to Edinburgh. Glad I don't have that jopurney to look forwards to today!

Right, veg prepped and chicken in the oven so lets make a fool of myself with this!

Hi Joanne

So the place of supply (hopefully) is

1. The speech would be a B2B so Germany

2. Irish TV would be Ireland

3. The magazine because it is being enjoyed in Germany

4. The UK because of the contract

Next time I will keep my big mouth shut biggrin

Not sure why the snow hit again. It was fun for my boys to play in but I'm still happy that the schools didn't shut today. Hope that's the last for the Mini-Beast.

Typical Shaun, the one day I don't check bbt sport and that happens near you!! They had some interesting pictures of fireballs on their Twitter feed. Glad everyone was safe. At least with it happening this freezing cold weekend all your windows would've been firmly shut what with all that smoke about.

Ah, now what about special rules for entertainment, e-services and events?

Hi Joanne (or anyone who wants to join in)

As said this is all new to me so still trying to get my head around the Services aspect

My understanding is that for the general place of supply rule if the recipient of the services is a relevant business person (B2B) then the place of supply is in the country in which they belong and if they are in the EU they will apply the reverse charge for the services.

If the recipient is not a relevant business person (B2C) then the place of supply would be the country in which the supplier belongs.

For e-services I thought they are supplied where the customer belongs, for entertainment and events if they are B2B then they are treated as general rule services and if B2C then the place of supply is the country where the event physically takes place.

Not sure if MOSS would need to be taken into account as well

Any help and pointers on what I have wrote and where I am going wrong would be greatly appreciated, this is the one down side to self-studying on your own, when learning you think you have understood the material but you have no one to ask to see if you have actually understood it correctly.

I keep meaning to read VATA 1994 Sch 4a and HMRC Notice 741a but I have just not had the time as yet

Cheers

I was just throwing in a couple of red herrings there, but only to make sure you had considered them. Bad bad Joanne! Sorry Doug! Your first answer was correct. Reverse charge is the process for the first three scenarios. E-services doesnt apply in this case for the magazine as its not my client producing and issuing the magazine, so MOSS will not apply to him. Good work, keep it up!
