ATT - VAT Compliance Diploma

Hi everyone,

I am currently running a small bookkeeping business part time and have decided that there is a gap in my VAT knowledge - in all honesty, until I went into practice I didn't realise what a complicated tax it was.  I have been looking into ways to improve my skills and have come across the VAT Compliance Diploma offered by the ATT.

The cost to complete the Diploma is £352 (it is only offered through Tolleys) so it is a bit of an outlay and before committing I was just wondering if anyone has done it?  Is it worth doing?  I have googled it and not a great deal comes up - no reviews and the posts that do come up seem to be old.

I have also looked into doing my ATT but that is more money and more work so I wasn't sure at the moment if I could take that on as I have small children.

Any advice out there would be gratefully received.

Thank you.

Caroline

Hi Caroline,

I don't know much about the VAT compliance diploma but I can tell you about the ATT VAT paper - You can (I think) take each exam with the ATT as a standalone certificate so you wouldn't have to do the whole course. The manual for the VAT exam paper is fantastic!! I haven't gotten to take any of the ATT exams (yet) but I use the VAT manual from Tolley's all the time.

I found the Tolley's textbook/manual for the VAT exam so easy to follow, much easier then the AAT Level 2 VAT paper. It goes into a lot of detail, lots to learn but it's so easy to follow.

If you didn't want to take an exam you could always just buy the manual second hand and work through it yourself. I'm sure new that the study pack for each exam in AAT is about 250.00 and the exam is about 100.00
