Need an accountant/book keeper Hemnel Hempstead area

I have recently started a LTD company. I live in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire and need an accountant. I make 2k gross per month so need someone to help set up my accounts and whatever else needs doing. I have registered with companies house and HMRC but not sure what else to do and how to go about doing it whilst trying to do my main job. With a 6 month old daughter I am quite tight for time. I spoke to a local accountant but their fees were over 2k per annum, don't really want to pay too much seeing as I will not make much profit anyway. So am looking for a smaller firm, maybe someone with less experience but will know how to do the basics and won't charge me too much as it would be good experience for them!

Hi Gareth,

We are an established practice (Business was set up in 1990 although only working in the SME sector since 2010) and specialise in service industries rather than retail so we may or may not be a good match for your requirements?

Our VAT inclusive prices for full service arrangements for small limited service companies start at £720 payable three months in advance then monthly by standing order.

We are Midlands based so if you decided to use our services everything would need to be done remotely. You may find though that a better fit for your business would be someone local who could pop around in the evenings to deliver / pick up your documentation (invoices / receipts / bank statements / etc.) rather than a distance arrangement that will involve you scanning receipts and forwarding downloaded bank statements and invoices.

If you would like to talk more even if you decide not to use our services then drop me a line at Croxley.Morris@virginmedia.com.

Good luck with the new venture and hope that 2014 proves to be a very lucrative one for you.

kind regards,

Shaun.

Hi Shaun,

Thanks for the reply. I think you are right as it would be best to use a local company, at least to start with, as I imagine I would need a lot of advice and someone that perhaps is more in need of the business such as a small start up firm may be more willing to spend more reduced fee/unpaid time on sorting me out and I can pop in on breaks to see them.

I thought I would be able to deal with the accounts myself but after reading about dividends, allowable expenses, national insurance classes and other lingo even further above my brain power I may well need a professional to at least get me started! I've got a box of receipts i'm hoping will reduce my tax bills but have no idea where to go next and don't want to end up with HMRC fines for tax fraud!

I had a couple of replies on a post I put in the recruitment area so hopefully they are trustworthy enough to use.

Thanks again and when my business is a million pound turn over I look forward to using your services,

Gareth

No problems at all Gareth.

I may charge more than £720 though for £million turnover businesses. lol.

When you get replies on the site its always worth looking through a few of the the posters prior posts as it gives you a feel for the person before contacting them.

To do that just click on the persons name and then go to the member posts and have a peruse.

Before picking someone I would also give it the weekend to allow others chance to read the thread as at the moment its self assessment season so many of the regulars don't have chance to keep up with the latest posts in work hours.... lol, work hours. For the most part we live, eat, sleep and breath this stuff. You'll find that the bulk of the really good bookkeepers and accountants out there never actually totally switch off from work at all.

Feel free to post questions on here where you are not certain of anything but as you identify your best option is to get someone within a reasonable travelling distance of you on board.

Right, now hurry up and make that first Million. I've earmarked a beach condo in Thailand thats dependant upon gaining your business....

all the best Gareth,

Shaun.

Hi Gareth,

Whilst not local to you, I deal with clients throughout the country as in this day and age email communication can sometimes be easier as clients can print off answers to questions and it also gives the ability to be contacted at evenings and weekends, which I don't mind!

I'd be happy to help you and if you'd like to discuss your business more privately you can email me direct on brightfutureaccountancy@yahoo.co.uk

I am a sole trader and not VAT registered, which may be of help to you as my quote of £400 will be all you pay! I'm happy to chat to you about all the things you will need to do and when you'll need to do them, as well as tax planning advice as and when the time arises

I'm keen to grow my business and regard happy clients as the way to recommend new ones to me! See my Twitter page @BrightFutureAcc for all testimonials from happy clients and hopefully we can work together!

Many thanks

Darren

HI Gareth,

I have recently set up my own bookkeeping business in Peterborough, although not local my sister in law lives in Ware, and therefore we could swap paperwork at regular intervals. I charge £18 an hour and it all depends on how much you can afford and exactly what it is you're looking for. I can certainly set you up with accounting software that you would have access to as well as myself, so anything you were unsure of could be discussed over the phone and I could walk you through it.

Feel free to give me a call on 01733 807232 or email carol@chromiumbookkeeping.co.uk

Hi gareth

I've come to the party rather late, did you manage to find an Accountant/Bookkeeper ?

I am a bookkeeper and I live near High Wycombe. I have close ties with an Accountant
who lives very near to me.

If you're still looking (unlikely, I know!) or need anything else, let me know.

Eunice
