Just saw the price of this one over on the ICB site!

ACCA Paper P6 (advanced Taxation) you get 1200 pages for £31.50 (Amazon price).

Suddenly that annual outgoing seems an absolute bargain. (comparative price would be £800 for the ACCA text at that page ratio (£60/90*1200 (rounded).... Better shut up now before I go giving Kaplan ideas about changing their pricing strategy)).

Good luck with the sale Ghislane. My tongue in cheek comment relates to the shock at the ICB price new, not whatever you decide to charge for this.

Shaun.

Yours sounds like a bargain Shaun.

I bought it for the ease of completing my self assessment. However after our last conversation I have decided to do the ACCA. I will start in Jan give myself some time off.

so have spent money needlessly and would like to recouperate some money back, obviously will not sell it to what i bought it for.

If it doesnt sell, it will become my dust collector..

Hi Ghislane,

I really hope that the ACCA turns out to be everything that you want it to be... It's hard, really hard but getting those letters and that knowledge base is second to non (I'll give ACA evens on everything but status which is where they leave ACCA behind).

On the when to sign up for ACCA, if you are intending to do a paper next June you need to get your exam entry in by the 8th of March so start thinking about applying for your student membership in December.

If you are not looking at sitting your first paper until December next year then start your studies but don't sign up as a student until later as your ten year clock starts ticking as soon as your application is accepted, not the date of your first exam.

You will hit brick walls in your studies and when you do don't be afraid to ask me anything.... Well, maybe not about group cashflow statements as they still give my little brain grief.

I don't think that Neil will be that far behind you so once he's finished AAT you might have your own little online study buddy there.

Open Tuition, Kaplan materials and the BPP I-Learn courses are all fantastic.

Good luck going forwards,

Shaun.

p.s. hope the mention that just one book at the higher levels is 1200 pages hasn't come as too much of a shock! (and it's not even the biggest one!!!)

I have taken a lot of time, of my next steps, what I am after and what will seperate me from the rest of the competiton. Even if i don't ever use it, I would like to have it as my personal achievement.

I am in no hurry as such and will have plenty more time on my hands as my little one will be starting school next year.

I don't think I would be ready to take exam in June. I think that is wishful thinking. I was hoping to sit F1 nd F2 exam together.

The 1200 page book has not scared me. I am prepared for ACCA to take over my life.

I don't know when i'm starting, i still have a project to do for AAT then i have to wait for the certificate. I'm not sure about exemptions, i think i will take them. I'll be looking at December next year before i sit an exam.

I will only be able to afford 1 paper at a time, not that that is a bad thing anyway, but it is going to be a long road.

I hope to pass before i reach retirement age, which, keeps being adjusted just to make sure i achieve my goal lol.

Dear Prime Minister,

Please can you increase the retirement age as i need to pass ACCA before i retire.

Thanks ever so much,

Spammy.

Hi Neil

Even if you sat all of the others amongst the first nine one at a time you need to sit F7 (financial Reporting) and F8 (Audit) together as they really are so closely linked that you would think that F7 was part of the F8 syllabus!

Other matching pairs / triplets that you might want to save up to take together are :

P2 and P7

P1, P3 and P5

Note that P1, P2 and P3 are compulsory papers. P1 and P3 are very closely linked and you could do with sitting them close on the tail of paper F5. (quite handy that one can do the skills level papers in any order so maybe drop F5 to last).

P7 is evil.

I liked P5 but management accounting theory and practice has proved the undoing of many.

A long way distant yet but P6 will prove the most practical options paper for you in a career moving forwards as its the advanced tax paper and will lead nicely into doing CTA (Chartered Tax) as your post qualification CPD... Note that you need to complete ACCA including P6 to even be considered as a student for CTA.

Nobody that I know including management accountants and Actuaries takes P4... Don't know why as it looks a simpler option. Maybe that it's the dark side of accountancy where one goes into the detail of financial instruments. Whatever. I know of nobody who has chosen that as an option.

HTH,

Shaun.

Who knows Shaun, i may be earning enough later on to take 2 in 1 sitting. For now, i am just along for the ride.

I keep a list of your recommended matches in my favourites, see, i do listen.

To be honest though, when i think about it, i can't really say why i am going on to study at that level, CPD? Interest in the subject matter? to enhance my career prospects?

I think it's possibly because i am just plain old mad.

Oh and nosey, very nosey, what's all the fuss about? kind of nosey.

I hope you sell your book Ghislane,

Neil.
