VAT question on Invoice

Hi Experts,

Hope you guys doing well.

I am self employed. My sole propretiorship company is based in Hungary.

My company have contract of understanding with US Client in USA  that my company works for his customer in Hungary. Type of service is ERP Consulting.

My company raises invoice to US Client. US Client pays to my company.

1-Now when i raise invoice to US Client, do i have to charge Hungarian VAT?

2-My US Client says that in my invoice no VAT has to be charged while issuing invoice to USA.

3-If i donot charge VAT in invoice, do i have to still pay VAT in Hungary?

4-If i pay VAT in Hungary, do i get refund of some of my VAT?

All answers will be appreciated. Thank you. Ravi

Hi Ravi,

Despite reciprocal agreements, the actual application of VAT is different in each country in the European Union.

This is a UK site so whilst we understand the treatment of VAT in the UK we would be ill advised to give advice based on transactions betweeen Hungary and the USA.

I think that this question really requires an expert in this field in Hungary although, I may be surprised and there may be someone on this site who is able to help. I hope so but I would try to look at other avenues rather than depending upon this one.

Good luck in finding your answers Ravi and my appologies that I could not be more help to you in this instance.

kind regards,

Shaun.
