Sage Instant Error

Hi, has anyone come across a problem on instant accounts where you get the error stating 'please enter a valid department reference'

Instant accounts doesn't have departments so its an error on the software itself.

The cause is that I loaded a backup from sage line 50 on a higher version of the instant accounts therefore corrupting the data. I then removed the back up and started again from where I left off however instant accounts is now picking up the file data from sage line 50 instead of instant accounts leaving data entry impossible.

I'm fixing this on Monday but just wandering if anyone else has had the same problem and how easy/how long it took to fix.

Thanks

Andy

Hi Andy,

I have seen this same question asked on the Sage forum. Just looked at it, but unfortunately nobody answered it...lol

I sometimes load Line 50 data into my version of Sage Instants and have never had this problem.....although both are the same version so that is probably why, but I have to say that it is probably a recipe for data corruption so I never work on the data and then re-load it into client's data I just work on it for management reports.

Sorry not much help.

Ok thanks for looking, I know how to do it now but was just wandering if it was an hour job or half a day job etc, just not looking forward to any other problems I might come across along the way.

I stick to my line 50 as much as I can but had to use my clients instant, should have just done it from scratch instead of restoring :)

well basically there are a couple of files that instant accounts usually ignores, off the top of my head its departm.dta, but due to the sage line 50 restore instant is now reading these files.
It just involves creating a new accdata file by copying all the files from the original not including the departm.dta & pasting into the new accdata file, however it can't be done in the sage as its a single user agreement so can't have 2 accdata files at one time(I think)
Then reindexing the data and *crossed fingers* it will work.

By Monday I will know the full extent of it

Sorted, only took half hour in the end. Probably could have done in 5 minutes once your familiarised with how the sage folders work.

I changed the accdata to accdatalive. set up a new accdata file. copied the accdatalive to the desktop just incase I needed it & deleted the departm.dta & departindex.dta(not sure if thats the complete name but thats about right) that were damaged.

Then deleted the accdatalive from the sage file & set up as a new company the normal way
