Why does everyone hide?

I like this forum, it is very welcoming; however, I was intrigued as to why everyone hides behind cartoon character avatars?

It may be my experience of 4N but I am happy to put my photo on as I feel it gives a much more personal view of the forum.

Hi Phil

For me personally, I have a face for radio. 'nuff said

The avatar characters started off as a bit of fun, that has turned into a bit of a tradition for this forum.

Like the new Avatar Bill, very apt character for yourself!

Hi Phil,

like bill says, it's a bit of a tradition. The Avatars change themes on a pretty regular basis. The longest so far has been the Dallas theme as nobody wanted Amanda to change from her Lucy Ewing avatar.

I think that photo's put a face to the postings but the themed avatars say something of the personality of the poster which a photo doesn't.

At the end of the day it doesn't really matter as the personalities come through in the writing... Or maybe like Bill I too am just finding excuses to hide away my radio face! (lol).

You'll also find that a lot of the strap lines have a history from the site as well... talking of which it's about time I changed mine.

All the best,

Shaun.

You may be on to something there.

This is my picture,

Alternatively I assume other people and myself included just don't want to spent the time looking for an appropriate avatar style or appropriate picture which is on digital format ready to be uploaded on here. I just don't have that many digital photos around.

Meant to say, i don't think anyone is actively hiding, speaking on a bookkeeping forum is not really a subversive activity, Just laziness from me.

I think you are right no-one is hiding as obviously people have their contact details!

Hmmm, need to find myself an avatar maybe, my boy would be very impressed if I showed up as Ben 10 perhaps!

Being so damned handsome, I find having a cartoon character is the only way to keep the traffic moving along ....

We also had a run with characters from 'only fools and horses' but nobody could tell the difference between my real picture and Rodney...pleased with the change.

I like the cartoons. I have to say that when I first registered on here I was confused by the Dallas theme. I don't think many other forums have 'random' avatars and I think it adds variation here.

I have rather a boring ICB crest, compared to some avatars on here, I did think when I first got the ICB on here that other ICB team would join in and it wouldn't just be me :)

Maybe I should swap it, my favorite cartoon was Danger Mouse but I think someone is using it?

Hi Karen

By no means mandatory, just a bit of fun.

Some of the old posts make for interesting reading, with remarks about long since changed avatars.

Hi Bill

Realised it wasn't mandatory, still got my thinking cap on:)

I was a tad confused by all the Dallas references when I first joined but as you say a trawl through some old posts puts it into perspective:)

Quite a good topic!
I was updating my website earlier in the week and was going to put a photo of myself on it to try and make me appear as a person rather than just a website/words. However, after looking through all my photos I couldn't find one that was appropriate or where I was facing the camera. I had hoped that the photos from my recent wedding would have had something in them :(

It is well worth having decent images of yourself on the site. I actually paid £25 for mine on a couple of occasions.

Really makes you stand out professionally.

Re the original question - bit irrelevant now Phil's gone all Ben 10 - I insisted on putting all our mugshots on the website, as I am sick of websites with 'about us' pages that don't tell you anything 'about us'!

Now have pictures on Twitter & FB, but being a 'newbie' on here, decided to play safe and go with what everyone else seemed to have.

Although may change that in future if I get a picture where I look 'more handsome'!

(watch your comments Balloch!!!)
