PAYE Agent - Missing Client!

Just thought I'd see if any one else has had similar problems with HMRC online PAYE

I recently registered as a PAYE agent and set up a client authorisation.
Duly set up a client and submitted an authouristion request.
My client received his pass key number last week and passed it onto me (so far so good!)

I went back online, clicked on the link to clients waiting for authorisation, I entered the number and got confirmation that I had registered the client (this is too easy!!)

It was all going too well - logged on today and I have no clients!! Tried phoning the PAYE dedicated help line and got a recorded message saying that they are experiencing difficulties with the phone system and to call back tommorow!!

Bill

Hi Bill,

I have logged on many a time to find everything has disappeared. The following day they seem to come back. I have given up on calling hmrc on it as they are none the wiser! Hopefully your client will reappear later!

Hi Bill.

I've recently been having problems with HMRC online agent services. My incident last week was that I had registered a new client for VAT registration which went through OK and no problems, but I then did it online to act as a VAT agent for my client, again, went through OK. The client received the pin through the post and passed to me and when I went enter the pin online my clients awaiting authorisation codes had all disappeared !!
Obviously I rang HMRC to which I got told that "they are aware of these online problems that we agents are experiencing at the moment but there is nothing they can do at the minute other than get your client to call HMRC and tell them whats happened so they can manually do it or for me to fill out a paper 64-8".
I was furious at this as I didnt want to burden my client with asking him to call HMRC on a number that isnt free to call to explain that HMRC system is rubbish and to give them the authorisation over the phone, when in fact I had the clients authorisation number in front of me.
I have decided that until they sort their systems out I'm going to do paper 64-8's to ensure this doesnt happen again. Long winded way round of doing things though as HMRC are always banging on about getting away from paper and doing as much as possible on line.

Beverley, Rob thanks very much.

It's reassuring? to know that the HMRC system is unstable and it's not me.
I did notice what I thought was a new bit on the "At a Glance" section, being able to do online filing only, with out the need to authorise the client.

I had contemplated registering for VAT prior to getting clients, in readyness. But with the problems I had trying to get Self Assessment (see my other post about that saga. Still waiting for the CAA to respond) and this current problem, I think I'll wait.

As an add on, am I right in thinking you no longer have to be VAT registered to be able to act as VAT agent. There seems to be a link to register if you're not VAT registered.

Bill

HMRC are in a mess at the moment. The P9s being issued are all wrong. My hubbie received a P2(new) yesterday with a BR code (he's been out of work since November 2008 and has received no money since April 2009). So no income, no benefits, no tax allowance!!!!!!

Hi all,

I looked into registering to be a VAT agent about a year ago, but because I'm not VAT registered, I was unable to!!!

It seems now that because HMRC want all VAT returns filed online they will now let me be an agent!!! (how convenient)

So, like Bill I have successfully registered, but haven't started getting clients sorted out yet!!!  I guess they are being inundated with requests!!!

Bill

I have exactly the same problem as you and it has been ongoing since 27th January and they say they can see my client on my account their end but are having trouble making it appear on my account. Still not sorted a month later.
I am not VAT registered but I am a VAT agent.
