sole trader financial year

I am currently doing my first sole trader end of year accounts.

Am I correct in choosing the financial year as follows:

Start date 27th April 2008 - 5th April 2009??

The start date of self employment is 27th april 2008 (that can't be changed) I really just want to make sure that I would be correct in putting the year end as 5th April 2009?? I think this would be more suitable for when the tax return is completed.

thsnk you in advance for your help!!!!

Lor,

You can either have the year end as 1 year later, as you you said 5th April, this will bring it in line with the end of the financial year, then it wil be that date every year.

Hi lor. Yes you'll be fine in putting the 5th April as the ye on the tax return. There is a section on the self assessment to enter the start date if it's after the 6th April from the previous year, ie the 27th April in your case :)

Hi Lor

You've got it correct , Starting date would be the starting date of the self employment in your case 27 April 08 and the End date is always 5 April 09 (unless the business was sized ) , so your second year SA Tax Return would dated 6 April 09 - 5 April 10. Pls hurry paper submition is by 31 Oct 09.

Good luck
Vassy

Hey Lor

Flex is right , by 31 Jan on line, if you haven't register yet its worth doing so, it's much much quicker and easier, and if say you expect repayment only 10 days.
