certificate of registration for VAT

Hi All

Please can you tell me, when you recieve the above does the effective date have to be the same date as the start date of self employment, or is a month gap between the 2 dates acceptable i.e. start date of self employment 1/09/09 and vat effective date 27/07/2009.

thank u in advance

As long as you are not going over the VAT threashold amounts you can start to be VAT registered at a chosen date, does not have to be the date you started self employment.  Hope this helps.

Re my previous reply.

Just realised that your VAT reg date is before your start date.  Not sure if this is OK.  Sorry reading thread too quickly.  Perhaps someone else can clarify.

how come the vat reg date is before the date of commencement? sounds like the form has been completed incorrectly. I doubt it would have any effect - you may have some purchase before commencement anyway that can be included.
