Questions re the practical aspects of bookkeeping

What software does everyone use, I have only ever used Sage in my work and I appreciate it might not be appropriate for all clients so what else is out there that people are using?

I'm aiming to set up on my own, I have a few people who have said when I am qualified and ready I can start doing their books. I have a plumber, a block paver and someone who makes kitchen cabinets, what would people suggest would be the best ways to deal with their book work? Currently all bar one have manual books and the other uses excel spreadsheets, the manuals have maybe 50 purchases a month and 30 sales plus cash entries of perhaps 25.

For small clients esp those on cash accounting, I use Moneysoft Moneymanager, but I know a lot of people use VT or solar accounts. I use SAGE for the larger clients.

Hi there
I can recommend vt transaction - it was introduced to me by an accountant firm I do a fair bit of work for.
IK is very user friendly and quick to use and edit.
I am told that a lot of smaller accountants are moving onto this (away frtom Sage) because it is so much cheaper.

I hope this helps.
