HELP NEEDED WITH VAT

Hello All i hope to visit this site quite often to ask questions about tax and vat. What i would like to know is that i have voulartry register for vat to claim back the vat i pay on diesel and parts etc. Sorry i forgot to mention what i do, basicaly i have a wagon with a crane on it and charged £35 a hour for the vehicle and me. Currently i have not charged vat on my invoices. The only reason why i have register is mainly due to recovering some cost from the diesel and what i get charged to maintain the vehicle plus also when i buy another vehicle i can reclaim the vat back. The other day someone said i have to charged vat for what i do for me to claim it back. Can anyone shed any light on this and i am new to this as i was previously a employee. I know basic stuff like anything i do for the business i have to write down and have records for everything. Is there any course where i could learn more which are'nt dear or are free. Thank you for reading and i hope i did'ny bored anyone with my question and i hope to get some replys so i know if i can claim it back or not.

Hi

Yes to claim any VAT back you need to be VAT registered, this is done through the HMRC who will give you a VAT number which you need to have on your invoices, they will explain everything when you contact them.

I hope this helps, if you need any more info we are all happy to help.

Shellie
