Would I need it?

I've recently discovered that you can do a level 3 diploma in bookkeeping with the ICB.  I've already done levels 1 and 2 and was wondering if 3 was worth doing or not?  I'm thinking about going self employed and wondered if I would need to do any of the below to peoples books or would the accountant do it?
I know all qualifications are good to have but the cheapest I've found it is for £199 so I want to be sure first!

Hi I work self-employed as a bookkeeper and have only done the two courses you have but now i have found that i do have to do the diploma to work. after the diploma i can get a practicing certificate to allow me to work. yesits defenatly worth it and its much better to be able to do all the above and to know about it because it does come up in bookkeeping and if you working for someone bookkeeping to save them accountants fees the more you can do the better for them.

I'm starting a course in sept at a local college to do level 3 diploma and its £180 and thats the cheapest you can get really.

you also have to do the level 3 diploma to get a practicing certificate to be able to work self-employed as a bookkeeper. it only takes a few months and you can work at the course as fast or slow as you want

Hi Rachel

As a reply to your posting. I have recently been in contact with ICB via email and they informed me that I can apply for a practising certificate after Level 2.
I am confused now as you have stated it is level 3.

Can anyone else confirm which level you need to pass with ICB before you can apply for a practising certificate?
Andrea

Hi Andrea,

You need only pass ICB Level II either manual or computerised to gain a practising certificate.

After I passed Level II comp, thats what I did and Im currently working through the Level III Diploma.  As Rachel says, the more you can offer a client, the better it is for them in terms of reducing their accountants costs.

Thanks for the replies everyone! Think I will do the level 3

I've just seen on the ICB website that they sell a text book that covers everything in levels 1 and 2. I don't suppose anyone knows if theres anywhere I can buy a text book that covers level 3?
