Hi all,

Hi from sunny old Telford in the Midlands

I've not long left school and have managed to get a job working with a local bookkeeper in Shrewsbury (about 15 miles from home) - a friend of my mom's

wasn't really looking forward to going to university and with the money requirements growing each year for tuition and living expenses this would put a strain on my family

I'm going to be studying towards an ICB bookkeeping course - my boss is ICB qualified and also holds Association of Taxation Technicians qual this seems quite  good route and I won't have to do the costing and other papers and assessments required by the AAT - what would be the point of doing 23 papers and exams / assessments to get to the same place that I can achieve with the ICB ?

well goodbye for now, and hopefully you all will be able to answer any questions that I have when I'm studying for my exams

Gemma

Hi Gemma

Welcome to The Book-keepers Forum!

If you want a career as a book-keeper obtaining a job with another book-keeper in practice is a great way to learn the ropes.

With regards to pursuing the AAT after the ICB it really depends on where you see yourself working long term. If its working for yourself as a book-keeper then having the ICB will be more than adequate. If you fancy going one step further and becoming a chartered accountant then the AAT is a good stepping stone to getting a training role with a firm of accountants. The AAT will also give you some exemptions from the ACCA and ICAEW.

Best of luck with your studies and your new job.

Guy
