City & Guilds/Pitman Bookkeeping

Hi all

I am a new joiner and would be interested in hearing your views on the City & Guilds/Pitman Bookkeeping Levels 1 & 2, which I am just about to complete.  I am keen to take up a bookkeeping position when I finish, once I have some experience I will probably want to go self-employed.  Any feedback on the course, getting that first position, etc would be very welcome!

Many thanks
TJ

Hello TJ,

Welcome to the forum.

Any City & Guilds qualification is well recognised and respected, so if you pass the relevant exams they'll certainly be an asset to you if you apply for a bookkeeping position.

If you decide to set up on your own at some time, because you are not a member of a professional body, you would have to pay £95 to HMRC to comply with the Money Laundering Regulations. You could apply to the likes ICB for example for membership by exemption as you would have recognised qualifications awarded by another institute. You could then pay for a practising certificate and you would be covered by them as regards to MLR.

Hope that helps you a little.

Regards

Rob
