Flight tickets

smile.gif Hello everyone,

I am not a book keeper and do my self assessments myself, including VAT.

Concerning flight tickets for my business, I am unsure how to deal with the taxes.

For example, Ryanair has got no clear brakedown of what they mean with "Taxes, Fees & Charges". There is no clear answer to find on the internet.

How do you deal with that? Does the whole "Taxes, Fees & Charges" amount is allowable?
Which would be far much higher than 17,5% VAT... confused.gif

The receipt looks like that:

**69.98 GBP Adult (ticket fee)
**33.11 GBP Taxes, Fees & Charges
***7.60 GBP Aviation / WCHR Levy
***0.0 GBP Car Rental
***0.0 GBP Insurance
**110.69 GBP Total Paid

Thank you very much

Oonagh

If the travel is solely for business it is allowable.

Just show the travel as £110.69. VAT can only be claimed when it is shown and you have a valid VAT invoice/receipt.

Now after a couple of month, I asked a HMR VAT officer about flight tickets. He said, I can't get VAT back for the flight tickets at all.
AS he is working for HMRC direct, that should be true. Or are there different ways of definitions? I bought all tickets online. Is it better to buy them through a local travel agency?
