Which Bookkeeping Course to use?

Hi

I am considering undertaking a bookkeeping course with a view to becoming a self-employed bookkeeper working from home.

Trouble I am experiencing at the moment is deciding which course material provider to use. The internet seems to have quite a few businesses offering home study materials. But which one is the best?

Also, which exam should I study for? The ICB or IAB?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there!

Welcome.  Like myself am new and also going ahead to do my own bookkeeping buisiness.  I did the home study course with the Distance Learning Partnership which I found on the ICB website. They are the best value for money, I did Manual Bookkeeping Levels 2 and 3 for £295.  I also registered with the ICB but I have heard the IAB is just a little ahead, still both are excellent.

Hope this is ok. Good luck.

I looked into both the ICB and IAB and having spoken to colleges, recruitment agencies and people in the profession it seems both the IAB and ICB are highly regarded. I've heard that both the IAB and ICB offer a lot of support to book-keeper in practice. Either the IAB or ICB would be a good choice.

Hi Guys, well heres my 2 cents worth, I will say from the outset I am an MIAB but have studied for ICB qualifications. From a Professional viewpoint I must say that IAB is by far the better organization, you can progress on from the IAB to the IFA should you wish. Also the IAB qualifications are recognized by the QCA (Qualifications & Curriculum Authority) which is not a bad thing!
Regarding training Providers I can recommend the following two as really good.

http://www.woodgrove-tutorials.co.uk/
http://www.holmestrainingservices.co.uk/

You can get a full list of Training providers from ....
http://www.iab.org.uk

Alternatively you can get the IAB Textbooks direct from the IAB and do self study. Hopes this helps guys, and if I can be of any further help pm me or mail me.. Good Luck! smile.gif
