just getting started

Hi everyone,
I hope i'm in the right place, my brother suggested i try talking on a forum to get tips.  I managed a online bookkeeping course and passed it but i feel unprepared and feel i didnt get enough training from the course, it cost alot and now i feel abit stuck.  I am transferring my fathers hand written books to Sage in April.  I have advised him to keep the other books going too, as i have no confidence in myself and cant seem to get any practical experience anywhere, being in my thirties it seems has its draw backs when the word trainee comes up! plus i have a toddler to look after too.  Do i just go in head first to my dads books and just hope i dont make a mess?  Plus the course only followed certain aspects and didnt tell you information you need to start sage from scratch in the new year?
Regards a worried weirdfaceNixsm

Hi Nixsm

You can purchase a good book-keeping book from most high street book shops which will show the basics of keeping your fathers accounts. If you're dead set on transferring over to Sage, have a look on Ebay where you can find some cheap training CD-Roms which will show the basics of setting it up and making posts.

I don't often mention my own company here ,but if all you wish to do is practice without an immediate commitment, try Liberty Accounts (Look at the user guides under Help they were written with users in mind) for the trial period by entering your father data (its free and well help improve your skills). Drop me a PM if you want more info.
