Whats the difference between the IAB and ICB?

I'm looking to start a book-keeping course and I'm not quite sure which which body of book-keepers is the best to study with. Both the IAB and ICB appear similar. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

The IAB is the oldest book-keeping body in the UK, having been established in 1973. The ICB is much newer having been formed in 1996. The IAB is also affiliated to the Institute of Financial Accountants, and a qualified IAB will get some exemptions from their syllabus if you fancy becoming an accountant. The ICB is growing, with an office in Australia being established last year.

At the end of the day both are good bodies to join. However, joining either will be a long slog, and to be a book-keeper you don't need any qualifications, so be sure you want to take this path first!

Hope this helps!
