Associate of Accountant

Good morning all, I hope the sun is shining wherever you are.

I am an associate of a local accountancy firm, which means that I carry out bookkeeping work for some of his clients, he invoices the client for my work, and I invoice him and he pays me.

My question is, do I still need to do MLR checks on him, as I invoice him directly, although I don't carry out any financial work for him personally, or his business directly. Also, would I still have to do MLR checks on his client, as I am doing the work, or would that be covered by him doing that?

Thanks in advance

Carol

1. Wouldnt think you would need to do MLR checks on the accountant

2. No need to do any MRL checks on the clients.  They are the accountants client, not yours, so MRL checks is his responsibility.

Hi Carol,

Just to cover yourself, I would ask the accountant for a letter on their headed paper to the effect that you can rely on their due diligence on their clients. I did some work for an accountant a while ago and this is what they did for me.

Thanks both, for the clarification. I think I will do that Pauline, but at least it saves me doing the whole AML check!
