Can the full cost of an eye test be put through as a business expense (sole trader business)? Also as a result of needing glasses for computer/reading work - can the cost of the glasses (or a proportion)?

Interesting discussions. As always the definitive answers come from Bill (Wella) and there's an excellent post from Frauke in there.

Hi Shaun
Ive had eye tests paid for when I was an employee but never needed glass before. This time, however I did - the kind optician said it was down to age!! Nice!! Actually my prescription doesnt say they were just for working on the PC but essentially they are and for reading, but I was hoping to get away with parking some of the cost in my business cos they cost me quite a bit and I will not need them outside of work as I dont need them for watching TV and I dont read books - the benefits of using a kindle are that you can just make the words look huge on the screen, ha! Cant see the post from Frauke in there but then my glasses are still in my handbag - I just cant get used to them as it feels like Im swimming when looking at the PC or my work. Interesting threads - thanks Shaun.
